Singapore-based digital publisher Tusitala Pte Ltd (http://tusitalabooks.com) released ‘Come Dream with Me’, the second title in its series of interactive children’s book apps on Monday. The book-app is a part of the ‘Lola Grows Up’ series of original, beautifully illustrated children’s books which follow a little girl, Lola, as she deals with pint-sized problems like sleeping alone or learning to share things with others. So as to appeal to young children, these messages are contained within enjoyable, memorable stories.

In the brief period that it has been on the iTunes App Store, the app has already garnered widespread attention. It has appeared on the top spot of the featured apps list dedicated to books on 88 stores around the world, including the US, UK, Singapore, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates. The app has clearly won fans with its voice-recording facility, which allows parents to record their voices reading the story for kids to enjoy a personalised storytelling experience anytime. In addition, it allows children to record and listen to their own voices, which builds confidence in pronounciation and reading aloud. This was picked up on by one appreciative reader, who commented that her four year old daughter “loves the app” and that they take “take turns recording parts of the story”.

This is exactly the kind of response that Wendy Wong, Director of Tusitala Pte Ltd, hopes to hear more of in the weeks to come. Wong, herself a mother of two young girls, says that “when parents and children read our stories together, it helps both of them approach an organic solution to early childhood challenges”. If the downloads so far are any indication, this is an approach that seems to be scoring points with parents and kids alike!

‘Come Dream with Me’ is a sequel to the first book in the series, The Toilet Monster, which is focussed on the theme of potty training and its attendant frustrations—for children and parents both—and brings some much-needed humour and entertainment into what can be a stressful period in a toddler’s upbringing.  Future books in the Lola Grows Up series are set to release over the next few months.
