NuTune, a major global supplier of RF Tuner Modules for TV and Set-Top-Box applications unveils multi-tuner solutions in single or dual Tuner Modules, which comply with a wide range of broadcast standards including DVB-T/T2, DVB-C, ATSC, DTMB and analogue TV standards.
The FJ214x product family takes advantage of the “Common Tuner Application Standard™”. A standard developed by NuTune in close cooperation with its customers which makes it possible to switch tuner solutions, single channel, multiple channels and even different silicon tuner cores with a minimum of effort. “As a fully independent tuner module maker, we see our role as to help customers and partners with the rapid commercialization of their products”, Mr. Jack van Mook, Vice President of NuTune explains.
Silicon Tuner performance has greatly improved over the last few years and the product portfolio of the leading semiconductor companies like Maxlinear, NXP and Silicon Labs have made it possible to further simplify RF tuner designs that support multiple regions and standards. At the same time however, there is a rise in demand for TV and STB applications that require multiple tuners which increases the RF complexity of the total application.
Cost pressure, demands for shorter the time to market and increase in functionality for consumer electronics products, forces companies to focus on their core. “Whilst it is easier now to design silicon tuner based solutions, it nevertheless requires RF expertise to get the best performance. A readily available, easy to integrate and flexible modular solution with guaranteed performance, keeps the total cost and risk low for our customers”, Mr. van Mook adds.
The single FJ2145 Tuner module processes up to two channels. Adding a further FJ2146 or FJ2147 increases that to three or even four channels. FJ214x is available in a standard size of 54x28x9.4 mm, is based on NXP Silicon Tuner IC and uses NuTune’s “Common Tuner Application Standard™”. The modules are fully RF tested, small, cost effective and come complete with connectors and shielding. NuTune’s RF experts have managed to ensure that every tuner in the application receives the best possible signal from the antenna input, maximizing sensitivity performance.
The FJ214x family has been designed in at various customers and a leading global STB supplier has already selected this new FJ214x product range for their latest PVR STB for the European market. The PVR STB range will be equipped with dual, triple or quad-tuners and will launch at the end of 2011.
