As global financial markets continue to fluctuate, retail investors in Singapore and elsewhere are increasingly looking for more stable alternatives to stocks. GreenWorld BVI has responded to this trend by introducing an Australian wheat farmland investment targeted at individual investors in Singapore and elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region.
Josh Cohn, Partner at GreenWorld BVI, noted that the firm believes that agriculture investments offer an excellent inflation hedge, and that farmland as an investment is also a much more stable way to invest in the agricultural sector than through individual agriculture stocks or funds.
"This is a purely passive investment directed at retail investors in Singapore and elsewhere," stated Cohn, and there are no ongoing fees or management responsibilities whatsoever. So it is a simple, easy to purchase, pure play on the ‘agriculture ‘supercycle’ that is designed to make things easy for individual investors.”
Cohn noted that farmland in other Western countries such as Europe and the UK was at least 15 times more expensive than farmland in Australia, presenting investors with an unprecedented opportunity to purchase a cheap asset that was bound to rise in price. Cohn noted that GreenWorld’s Australian farmland investment targeted a 9% annual income from the sale of the wheat crop, and also possesses substantial upside potential in capital value due to its rock-bottom price.
Cohn further noted that legendary commodities investor Jim Rogers, who is based in Singapore and who has long advocated the merits of farmland investments, had recently established a US$350 million fund to invest in Australian farmland.
“If Jim Rogers believes that farmland in Australia offers a compelling value, than in our mind this validates our offering this opportunity to our retail investors clients,” concluded Cohn.
