Research is increasingly showing the benefits of outdoors to children’s health. Children enjoy positive physical, mental and emotional benefits through outdoor play. However, in our society today, children spend less than half the time playing outdoors compared to their parents when they were of the same age.

Skate with Us (SWU), a skate school for children from age 3 to 12 years old is on a critical mission to bring outdoor fun to children. SWU recognizes that there are real benefits to health and cognitive development that children may gain from free and unstructured play outdoors. “Our children in Singapore have ‘lost’ their childhood to books and school work. Our pressure-cooker education environment has resulted academic-centric parents who pushed their children to study, sometimes beyond their means. Singaporean children tend to stay indoors to play computer games or watch tv. It’s common to see children overweight or wear glasses at early age. Children need go outdoors and exercise, have fun!” says Darren Ng, SWU Skate Camp Coordinator. The objectives of Skate With Us Superheroes Skate Camp are to encourage children to have unstructured and imaginative play outdoors on wheels. SWU wants to encourage children especially preschoolers outdoors, socialized, active through the joy of skating.

This March 2011 School Holidays, SWU is organizing a Superheroes Skate Camp where children will go outdoors and learn about skating through a special superheroes-theme skate camp. Superheroes Skate Camp is aimed specifically at children ages 3 to 12 who have an interest in all things skating and their superheroes. Children who are fans of Winx, Young Justice, X-Men, Batman, Superman will definitely enjoy this skate camp with a superhero-twist. Children will unleash their creativity and create or become their very own, unique superhero, taking part in missions and challenges while honing their skating skills!

An exciting series of fringe activities that will explore a wide variety of superheroes themes like Kryptonite Toss, Young Justice Heroes Telematch, X-Men Obstacle Course on Wheels and Batman and Robin Scavenger Hunt. The highlight at the skate camp is being able to let the kids go outdoors have fun through skating, explore their imagination, wear costumes and role-play as superheroes.

Superheroes Skate Camp will operate on the following dates:

March 14 to 17: Half Day (9am to 12pm) or March 14 to 17: Full Day (9am to 5pm)

March 28 to 31: Half Day (9am to 12pm) or March 28 to 31: Full Day (9am to 5pm)
