Gnowledge officially announces the launch of their free-to-use test publishing platform today. The platform, www.gnowledge.com, allows anyone to create, publish, share and take tests online. Eventually it aims to provide a global repository of user-generated test, assignment and exam questions that can be accessed by educators, students and parents of school-going children all over the world. The platform also provides an automated on-the-spot marking system that takes the tedium out of self-marking and self-assessment.
Gnowledge aims to build their international test paper syllabus database by attracting a wide pool of educators to use the platform and set questions for their students. To achieve this, Gnowledge has made the platform easy to use and has specially programmed the platform to accept questions and answers in a format that can be automatically marked.
“As any educator knows, marking 40 sets of Multiple Choice Questions is tedious and monotonous. By eliminating the need for educators or parents to mark test papers, Gnowledge provides a very attractive time-saving feature – time that can be better spent putting together a better lesson plan, or teaching. We realized that technology was able to provide just this solution, but there was no one out there doing this, so we decided to make one,” says Choong Chong Yew, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Gnowledge. “Imagine the number of hours we can help educators save globally!”
The technology team at Gnowledge researched ways to input questions and answers that could be accepted by the automated marking system and have come up with some novel solutions for the multiple choice questions, fill in the blanks, true/false and match questions, with more in the works.
With the attractive, automated marking feature, students are able to assess areas they went wrong, see the correct answers and learn on the spot, while educators and parents can log in remotely to view their ward’s assessment scores and see where he/she went wrong in order to focus on the child’s weak areas.
“We hope the self-marking feature will encourage students to use the platform regularly for self assessment. To that end, what we have included is the question and answer randomization. This makes each test different each time it is taken, forcing the student to think about the answer again,” adds Choong.
Gnowledge was beta-launched in February to start accepting questions and feedback from users. Since then, the portal has attracted, mainly by word-of-mouth, almost 9,000 users worldwide. So far, the bulk of early adopters hail from Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico, Hong Kong, United States and the United Kingdom.
“When we first conceptualised Gnowledge, we wanted to democratize learning and make learning truly global – no matter where you were, you could login in at any time, and take a test or an assignment or an exercise. Educators from around the world can create, publish and share the tests. Everyone can then tap into the global expertise of educators and the best of teaching practices worldwide,” Choong shares.
